Our Y4 and Y5 boys had a great day at the East Anglian Prep Schools Athletics on Tuesday 14 June 2016.

Y5

Jack Aldridge competed in the 100m sprint, coming 3rd in his heat.  In the long jump, Jack produced a personal best of 3.34m and came 9th.  Alex Hall came 3rd in his heat in the 70m hurdles.  Jake Reynolds had a great run the 200m and secured his place in the finals with his 2nd place in the heat.  Jake also took part in the cricket ball throw.

The Y5 relay proved an exciting race – Jake Reynolds got the team off to a good start, finishing his leg in 2nd place.  He then handed the baton to Ruslan for the second leg.  Despite a good run from Ruslan, the team fell back to last in the field.  Alex Hall made a huge effort to bring the team back up into second place and back in contention. The final handover was to Jack Aldridge for the last leg.  Jack put in an incredible sprint to take the 3rd place against a very strong field.  Well done to all the boys on a great team performance.

Y4

The Dagg twins proved that they are ones to watch with real promise for the future.  James Dagg competed in the 100m and, with a time of 16.8, finished with 4th place. Edward Dagg competed in the 600m race with a time of 2.09; a very good time considering that the heavens opened and poured down with rain for this race and left him soaked right through. He also took part in the long jump with a jump of 2.73m. Oscar Jewers also took part in two individual events: the cricket ball throw, in which he threw 26.77m, and the 55m Hurdles which he finished in a time of 12.0 to take 3rd! Yaw Amankona ran his heart out with a massive sprint in the 75m race and to also win 3rd place.  All four boys competed in the Under 10 Shuttle relay and qualified for the finals!

Despite the mix of hot sun and heavy downpours (blowing away and destroying our gazebo!), it was still a fantastic day! Well done to the boys from Bedford Prep who took part with such great spirit!
