The Quarry Theatre will be hosting the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire finals of Poetry By Heart, with a guest reading by Next Generation Poet Daljit Nagra.

A nationwide completion, Poetry By Heart aims to encourage pupils aged 14-18 to learn and recite poems by heart, not by rote. The winners of individual school rounds will compete by reciting both a pre-1914 poem and First World War, or post 1914, poem, and the winner will be going forward to the National Finals weekend in March 2016. Come along and support your local students!

Guest poet Daljit Nagra won the Forward Prize for best poem in 2004, and then the Forward best first poetry collection in 2007. He has twice been short-listed for the TS Eliot prize and is one of the Poetry Book Society’s selected Next Generation Poets.

Poetry By Heart is an educational initiative of the Poetry Archive, in partnership with The Full English.
