On Tuesday 11 October we were very fortunate to welcome Dr Leslie Howard to the school, an internationally renowned pianist and composer.

In the afternoon he gave a two and a half-hour masterclass at which three of our boys played for him as well as two external students. During this time he gave lots of constructive feedback and demonstrated wonderfully, despite claiming that he had never learnt some of the pieces! After only a 35 minute break he came back to give his own recital and treated us to some incredible piano playing of Beethoven, Grieg and Liszt. Dr Howard has recorded every piano piece by Franz Liszt in an impressive 99 disc collection but performed just two works by the composer which had the audience holding their breath.

Overall, a great afternoon and evening which will be remembered for a long time by all those that were there.
