Our Music Fellowship programme continues apace; this week it was the turn of piano to take the spotlight.

Excitement was running high on Wednesday 26 February as we welcomed into school the musical powerhouse that is Joanna MacGregor (CBE), one of the most innovative musicians of our time, who has performed in over 80 countries. Joanna is also Head of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and we are truly honoured that she has agreed to be our Piano Fellow for 2020.

Joanna combined a sense of sharp wit and positive energy as she worked with both Prep School and Upper School pianists as well as Chamber Music ensembles throughout the day – the boys responding easily to her relaxed teaching style. The highlight of the visit was Joanna’s exhilarating lunchtime recital, performed to a full audience brim with boys, parents and staff.

With a comfortable and confident stage presence, Joanna further enhanced the experience by talking us through her repertoire before she started each piece, providing the audience with insight and background information. We very much look forward to welcoming Joanna Macgregor back again in the Autumn Term.
