It has been a superb week on the cricket pitch for two of our Old Bedfordians: Alex Wakely (96-07) and Charlie Thurston (07-14).
Alex Wakely, captain of Northamptonshire Cricket Club, smashed his way to an amazing 10,000 career runs in the match against the Yorkshire Vikings on Thursday 7 June at the Emerald Headingly. Meanwhile, newcomer to the Northants ‘Steelbacks’, Charlie Thurston, scored a very pleasing 53 off 62 balls and was heralded as the Northants’ standout player of the match; a terrific debut for Charlie.
It was the Yorkshire Vikings who claimed the match in the end, by chasing 242 with four wickets in hand and an over remaining.
It always gives us great pleasure to see our OBs doing so well, and to have two fantastic players achieve terrific landmarks while playing for the same team in the same match makes us all the prouder.
