Old Bedfordians Named in England U20 Elite Player Squad for 2024/25 Season

Old Bedfordians Named in England U20 Elite Player Squad for 2024/25 Season

The England Under-20 Men’s Elite Player Squad (EPS) for the 2024/25 season has been revealed, featuring a strong line-up of 50 talented players. Among those selected are Old Bedfordians: Jonny Weimann (18–24) and former Head of School, Aiden Ainsworth-Cave (15–24), both representing Northampton Saints.

This announcement is a proud moment for our school, highlighting the continued success of our rugby programme and paving the way for the next generation of talented sportsmen and OBs.

Aiden, a forward, first joined the Saints’ Academy at the Under-14 level and recently signed with Northampton’s Senior Academy ahead of the new season. His journey has been one of resilience and determination, having missed most of the 2023/24 season due to injury. However, he made a triumphant comeback in the Saints’ final Academy League game, playing a key role in securing a victory over Newcastle Falcons and featuring in the league final.

Joining Aiden in the EPS is scrum-half Jonny Weimann, who has rapidly progressed in his rugby career. Jonny made his senior debut for the Saints, coming off the bench against Sale Sharks in a friendly fixture back in March.

In addition, both Aiden and Jonny have previously represented England Under-18s in the 2024 Six Nations Festival, further demonstrating their exceptional potential on the international stage.

As the new season approaches, both players will be aiming to make their mark and continue their development within the England setup. The EPS will kick off their campaign with Round 1 on Thursday, 30th January 2025, in a thrilling encounter: England vs Ireland.

We wish Aiden, Jonny, and the entire squad the very best of luck for the upcoming season!
