OB Rob Menhart Welcomes 1st IV for Fives Match at Cambridge Uni

Our 1st IV were given a very special welcome when they visited Cambridge University for a Fives match against the University of Cambridge team. While this fixture is always a highlight in the Fives calendar due to their purpose-built indoor courts, it was Old Bedfordian Rob Menhart (17-22) that made their trip extra special, when he made a special effort to welcome the boys to his new home.

Rob, who is currently reading Engineering at Cambridge, came back at school just a few months ago when he, along with three other OBs took part in a question and answer session to help current boys themselves thinking about studying at an Oxbridge University.

Fives is continuing to thrive this season as a full games option for boys in all years with numbers increasing from four to almost 30 in summer 2024. Regular tournaments run between boys in the Fourth and Remove Forms as senior years have gone on exam leave.

Our regular fixtures against Oundle, Bedford Modern (our own derby), Rugby, Old Bedfordians and the University of Cambridge, as well as the Regionals and Nationals, all featured in the calendar this year, with various wins and losses(!), and we hope to grow the fixture list for next year.

Our 1892 (refurbished in the 1950s) four pitched roof courts continue to function well and plans for their development are currently being costed and considered. Senior and Junior House Fives are still a feature of the year and prep schoolboys continue to be introduced to Fives.
