Normally, at this time of year, we gear ourselves up for one of our most prestigious events of the year, Prep School Speech Day, which is a celebration of the year’s academic achievement (for all boys, and particularly our prize-winners). It is usually held in the Great Hall and includes speeches from the Headmaster, the Head Boy and Guest of Honour, and music from boys of the school. The Guest of Honour also awards the academic and other prizes. All boys in Y5-8 attend, as well as prize-winners from Y3 and Y4 (and any others who would like to come). We also extend an invitation to our parents, to come and share this wonderful occasion with us. Last year the event was held remotely because of the pandemic.
This year, plans have been slightly complicated by Government restrictions. Depending on what the Government announce on Monday, we hope to run the day as a partly live event, with Year 8 boys in attendance in the Great Hall. We have chosen Year 8 boys as this will be their last speech day. We would also like to invite the Year 8 parents to the Great Hall and to drinks afterwards outside if we are able to do so. We will confirm this and send out invites to Y8 parents once the Government has made their next announcement.
In order to give clarity and advance warning to you, whatever the Government announce, we will ask all other boys from Y3-Y7 to stay at home on the morning of Saturday 26th June and watch the event on live stream if they would like to. Boys who are prize-winners from all years will still have their names and prizes read out.
We hope you understand why we have taken this measure, and will communicate the final details as soon as we are able to.
