Northampton Saints rugby coaches, Mark Satterthwaite and Edd Rhodes, have initiated a valuable new resource for the school’s rugby programme. Every Tuesday, prior to the first games session of the week, they will lead a 15-minute staff inset aimed at enhancing the quality of rugby training delivered by the school’s coaches.
The inaugural session, held this Tuesday, focused on the tackle area, providing coaches with a range of useful tools including activities, conditioned games and specific areas of focus. These resources are designed to ensure the confident d
elivery of high-quality rugby training sessions.
A unique aspect of these insets is the involvement of some of the school’s U14 players, who volunteer each week to participate in demonstrations. This hands-on approach not only aids the coaches in understanding the techniques but also engages the younger players in the learning process.
The initiative aligns with the Saints’ coaching and training philosophy, emphasising the appropriate development of players. By equipping coaches with these tools and strategies, the programme aims to foster a more effective and cohesive training environment.
Director of Rugby, Mr James Hinkins, commented, “Mark and Edd’s expertise and structured approach are set to make a significant impact on the school’s rugby programme, ensuring that all training sessions are conducted with confidence and precision. These sessions are crucial for maintaining a high standard of coaching and, by providing our coaches with the right tools and knowledge, we can ensure that our boys receive the best possible training, which is essential for their development and success on the field.”
We look forward to working with Northampton Saints throughout the school’s rugby season.
