Year 3 Explore Our Extreme Earth

Our Year 3 boys enjoyed an action-packed Extreme Earth Day this week, diving deep into the dramatic forces that shape our planet.

With Mr Loader, the boys explored how tectonic plates move and how volcanoes form. They used satsumas to model the Earth’s crust and bring plate boundaries to life and also mastered challenging new vocabulary, including tephra and pyroclastic flow.

Mr Rees then introduced the surprising benefits of living near volcanoes—from fertile soils and geothermal energy to hidden treasures like diamonds—before the boys designed and created their own islands.

The day concluded in our Prep Science Laboratories, where boys witnessed some spectacular volcanic eruptions.

The combination of specialist teaching, hands-on experiments and creative exploration made this an unforgettable day of learning.
