Xavier Reaches Nationals in 13 Events

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Remove Former Xavier, who has qualified for both the British Championships and the England National Championships across an extraordinary 13 events this season.

This success follows months of relentless dedication, discipline and hard work throughout the national qualifying window. To reach this level across such a wide range of events is a remarkable accomplishment, reflecting not only Xavier’s talent but also his consistency, resilience and commitment both in and out of the pool.

Qualification for national competition is highly competitive, with exacting standards across every discipline. Xavier’s achievement is made all the more impressive by the breadth of events in which he will compete.

At the British Championships, Xavier has qualified in:

  • 200m Freestyle
  • 400m Freestyle
  • 50m Backstroke
  • 100m Backstroke
  • 200m Backstroke

He will also compete at the England National Championships in:

  • 50m Freestyle
  • 100m Freestyle
  • 800m Freestyle
  • 1500m Freestyle
  • 50m Butterfly
  • 100m Butterfly
  • 200m Individual Medley
  • 400m Individual Medley

His strongest stroke is the 200m backstroke, although his highest FINA points this season have come in the 400m freestyle, underlining his versatility across both sprint and endurance events.

Speaking about his achievement, Xavier told us, “I was ecstatic. It’s amazing qualifying for so many events, especially after all the hard work we’ve put in over the course of the year. It’s been really helpful being able to train here at the school pool as well – getting an extra two or three hours each week has made a big difference.”

Xavier’s training schedule reflects the level of commitment required to perform at this standard. Training takes place every day, with double sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, including early morning starts from 5.30am. His dedication is supported closely by the school, which has helped him balance the demands of elite sport with academic life.

“The school has been amazing,” Xavier added. “They support me with things like providing lunch around training, and the extra sessions during Games – especially the sets Miss Spong puts together have really complemented my external training.”

Xavier has been swimming competitively for around nine years, having joined Biggleswade Swim Club after moving to the UK from the Middle East. His progress through the sport has been impressive, reaching regional level just three years ago before stepping up to national level last year.

Xavier’s parents paid tribute to the role Bedford School has played in his development saying,
“We are incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement the school has shown Xavier throughout his journey so far. The commitment to nurturing both academic and sporting excellence has played an important role in helping him pursue his ambitions at this level, and we truly appreciate the encouragement he receives from staff and the wider sporting community.”

Both championships will take place during the final two weeks of July, marking the culmination of an already exceptional season. With that comes the next phase of intense preparation, something Xavier is clearly ready to embrace.

With his qualification across such a wide programme of events, Xavier has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting young swimmers to watch this summer and the whole school community will be cheering him on.
