As part of our Floreat academic enrichment programme, Sixth Formers have embraced an exciting challenge. The task? To create a three-hour course on a topic they are passionate about — something that reflects their interests, expertise or future aspirations. Each course must be engaging, informative and tailored for their peers, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on activities for a truly immersive learning experience.
One of the first to be delivered was from Sixth Former Oscar, who introduced his super-curricular course, Exploring the Underwater World. Inspired by his love for scuba diving and marine biology — and fuelled by our recent Biology expedition to Mexico — Oscar delivered a captivating outline that combined scientific theory with practical exploration. His approach did not just inform, it inspired, sparking curiosity and excitement among his peers.
Over the coming months, boys will develop and deliver courses on topics as diverse as Quantum Mechanics, AI in Medicine, Financial Markets, Philosophy in Sport and more. Other sessions already booked include Trade Wars, Fluid Dynamics and The N-body Problem — a testament to the intellectual ambition and creativity thriving within our Sixth Form.
“Competitive universities place great emphasis on super-curricular enrichment – exploring an academic area in greater depth beyond the classroom. Designing a course with thoughtfully planned practical elements, and then teaching it to peers, is a powerful way to demonstrate genuine intellectual curiosity and initiative. Each presentation also gives our Floreats the opportunity to engage with new topics, helping them become well-rounded learners who can confidently discuss a wide range of subjects – a quality highly valued by top universities.” – Head of Academic Extension and Enrichment, Dr Arjan.
The Floreat Programme gives boys the time and space to explore super-curricular opportunities that deepen their understanding and spark their passions. It is designed to empower them with confidence, knowledge and ambition that reach far beyond the classroom — preparing them to thrive at the world’s most competitive universities.
