Ready2Lead? – Empowering Sixth Formers to Change the World

We were proud to host the second session of the Harpur Trust’s innovative leadership initiative, Ready2Lead?, on Wednesday 6 November. This unique programme aims to equip Sixth Form students across the borough with the skills and knowledge to become effective leaders. The event saw over 100 students from nine different schools come together to focus on the theme Ready 2 Change the World.

The session was packed with practical workshops designed to help students bring their projects to life. From mastering public speaking to understanding the nuances of publicity and marketing, the delegates received valuable insights into how to maximise their impact.

Mrs Chris Prior kicked off the event with an inspiring talk on making a difference in just 60 seconds. His dynamic presentation set the tone for the day, encouraging students to think about the small yet significant ways they can contribute to the world.

Following this, Krish Gupta from IKREATIVE took to the stage. His keynote address focused on the power of digital marketing and social media. Krish shared strategies on how to effectively market yourself and your projects, emphasising the importance of reaching the right audience, staying adaptable to trends and optimising outreach efforts to carve out a niche.

The final keynote speaker, Paul Hutchinson, co-founder of the Bedford Independent, highlighted the critical role of media in project success. He explained how third-party endorsements from trusted sources can significantly boost a project’s credibility and reach. Paul’s insights into working with the media provided students with a deeper understanding of the importance of strategic communication.

The second session of Ready2Lead? was a resounding success, leaving students inspired and equipped with the tools they need to make a meaningful impact. The programme continues to foster a sense of community and leadership among the young participants, preparing them to take on future challenges with confidence and creativity. As we eagerly anticipate Part Three of Ready2Lead?, entitled Ready 2 Be Extraordinary?, excitement is building among the participants.

This final session, to be held at Kimberley Sixth Form College, will be a grand showcase where teams present their innovative projects to an esteemed audience, including the Mayor, the Lord-Lieutenant, the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire and the CEO of the Harpur Trust. This is a unique opportunity for students to demonstrate their hard work and creativity, receiving valuable feedback and recognition from some of Bedford’s most influential figures. The event promises to be a celebration of youth leadership and a testament to the transformative power of education and community support.
