We are thrilled to announce that Remove Former Pop achieved the highest score in the East of England in this year’s Hamilton Mathematical Olympiad. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to Pop’s dedication, mathematical ability and sheer hard work.

Pop’s success in the Olympiad has been nothing short of extraordinary. He achieved a gold award, reserved for the top 20 students nationally. While the UKMT has not confirmed his exact placement, his score suggests he is likely to be in the top 10 in the country. In light of this, Pop has also been invited to participate in the UKMT Olympiad mentoring scheme.
Head of Mathematics Miss Rebecca Jackson commented, “This achievement is incredibly rare, having only occurred twice at Bedford School in the past 20 years. To be placed in the top 10 nationally is simply incredible and highlights Pop’s immense mathematical potential. The UKMT team clearly recognises his future potential by inviting him to be mentored.”
Pop told us that he did not answer the last question, which leads us to believe he must have achieved full marks on the questions he had time to complete.
When asked about his achievement, Pop explained, “It has been a pleasant surprise to score very well in this Olympiad, especially after the work put in. I’d have to thank the whole Maths department for helping, Mr Prior for setting it up and Mr Sahota for assigning some past papers, which turned out to help loads since the questions were similar. I will say to other contestants that hard work will always pay off.”
