Friday saw a brilliant final to our annual Y3-Y6 poetry recitation competition.
The competition, which started earlier in the term when every boy in Y3-Y6 chose and learned a poem off-by-heart for the class heats, has been a brilliant learning experience for all.
This Friday, the winners of the heats recited their poems in the Erskine May Hall to their classmates and teachers. With poems covering everything from noses to always being right to homework and even Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood.
The judges, Mrs Heywood and Mrs Silk praised the boy’s performances for being dramatic, funny and beautifully enunciated. They recognised how very difficult it is to stand and perform in front of a packed hall, but the boys did superbly, displaying their knowledge and understanding of their chosen poem, using pitch, pause and emphasis to engage and impress them and the audience.
Congratulations to every boy for participating; special praise goes to the finalists and this year’s winners.
