This year’s Charity Run was a gentle reminder of how much can be achieved when people come together with a shared sense of purpose. Across the afternoon, boys, staff and families all played their part, whether running, fundraising, organising, cheering from the sidelines or offering encouragement when it was most needed. The atmosphere was positive and inclusive, with moments of fun, quiet determination and pride in what was being achieved.
In raising over £9,500 for 11 charities, the boys were supported at every step by those around them. It was a clear example of how young people thrive when they’re surrounded by encouragement and a community cheering them every step of the way.
Events like this are a reminder that at Bedford School, boys don’t grow on their own, they grow because of the people alongside them - it takes a whole village as they say!

We are delighted to share that our Director of Sport, Ian McGowan, has been appointed East Midlands Regional U15 Head Coach for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Foundation – one of cricket’s most respected and competitive development pathways.
This prestigious role sits alongside his full‑time position at Bedford School, further strengthening our cricket programme and reinforcing the quality and credibility of our coaching staff beyond the school environment.
Having devoted much of his career to developing young cricketers, this appointment marks both a proud milestone and an exciting new challenge for Ian. The MCC Foundation’s mission to widen access to high‑quality coaching for talented young players from all backgrounds strongly aligns with his own values and experience.
Ian has already begun working regionally with players and fellow coaches, sharing best practice and bringing the most progressive coaching methods back to Bedford. His appointment also reflects our long‑standing commitment to contributing positively to the wider sporting community.
We congratulate Ian on this well‑deserved appointment. You can read the full story in the link in the bio.

We are thrilled to celebrate Fifth Former Elias, who has been awarded this year’s 'Young Composer of the Year' by the Bedfordshire Orchestral Society – an outstanding achievement and a testament to his dedication and creativity in music. Elias’s winning composition, 'A New Discovery', is written for string orchestra and is inspired by film music and the work of Sibelius. Although the piece currently exists as a Musescore recording, the live premiere will take place after 2 May, when it will be performed by professional musicians – an experience Elias is eagerly looking forward to. Reflecting on his win, Elias shared, “I love composing because it is such a nice feeling to be completely free to take musical ideas from my head and translate them into real music.”
Elias credits the school’s musical opportunities and the GCSE composition programme for helping develop and refine his compositional skills over the past two years. A talented multi‑instrumentalist, he plays piano and violin to Grade 8 standard, has recently taken up jazz piano, and will continue his musical journey at Bedford studying Music, Maths, History and Physics at A‑Level. He is also considering pursuing music beyond school. Well done, Elias!
A huge well done to all our squads who competed at this year’s Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens. The boys have made tremendous progress throughout the season, and those selected for Rosslyn Park were superbly prepared for the challenge. Our U14s were on outstanding form, cruising through Day 1 and delivering a dominant 52–7 win over favourites Finborough School in the eliminator. Meanwhile, both the U14 and U16 squads earned their place in Day 2, with the U16s going one step further battling their way through to the Plate Semi‑Final and finishing inside the top 10 out of 250 schools. A superb achievement.
The U18s faced a tough group and narrowly missed out on progressing, but represented the school with determination and real quality throughout.
A special shout‑out to U18s Fred and Harry, who aren’t pictured due to injury but were very much part of the squad effort and journey.
👏 Huge congratulations to every player who pulled on the shirt this week, and a heartfelt thank you to the parents, coaches and staff whose support makes experiences like this possible. A brilliant week of rugby, resilience and Eagle pride. 🦅 💪
Now in its fifth year, the Boarders’ Spring Dinner has firmly earned its place as one of the most anticipated events in the boarding calendar and this year’s celebration did not disappoint! Held just before the busy exam season, the evening offered our boarding community the perfect chance to unwind, connect and enjoy time together. Dressed in dinner jackets and bow ties, our boarders and staff filled the Great Hall, newly transformed into an elegant cabaret‑style venue with black linen and atmospheric touches that made the night feel truly special.
A delicious buffet from our in‑house caterers, Lodestone House, was a highlight, giving boys the freedom to mingle, chat and enjoy their favourite dishes in a relaxed, sociable setting.
Upper Sixth Former Kasper agreed,
“I loved talking with friends and with people I don’t usually sit with. The whole evening encouraged socialising and helped build lasting memories.”
Guests also enjoyed an inspiring talk from Old Bedfordian Tim Bouscarle (01–06), co‑founder of Chilly’s water bottles, who offered thoughtful insights into his journey, career and life beyond school.
On Sunday 22 March, pupils from Bedford School and Bedford Girls' School joined forces with the Eagle Choir for a magical Joint Choral Society Concert. The evening opened with stunning chamber performances, including Bel Canto’s beautiful rendition of Weelkes’ Thus Sings My Dearest Jewel and elegant Baroque works from the Baroque Trio and both schools’ orchestras.
After the interval, the spotlight turned to Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. A vibrant chorus of courtiers, witches, sailors and mythical creatures brought the drama to life, while the soloists performed with real maturity and musical sensitivity. Supported by a superb string orchestra, the production was truly special.
A huge well done to all our musicians and thank you to everyone who helped create such a memorable finale to the spring term!
We were delighted to join forces with Bedford Girls’ School for Rock Night 2026 - a fantastic night of live music, showcasing the talent, creativity and confidence of our young performers. The evening delivered standout moments in every direction. Upper Sixth Former Ben impressed with a full 12‑song set, while Lower Sixth band Sound Barrier kept the audience buzzing with a brilliant 45‑minute performance. Upper Sixth musician Wallace, who has remarkably only been playing guitar for a year, astonished everyone with intricate guitar melodies played with skill and ease.
The atmosphere was electric. Dancing in the audience became a performance of its own, complete with backflips and street‑dance moves that added to the excitement of the night. There were powerful vocal moments too: with Toxic Gossip Train shook the hall with Linkin Park’s 'A Place for My Head', and Ava and Polly from Bedford Girls' School, accompanied by our Upper Sixth boys, delivered superb renditions of 'Need You Now', 'Livin’ on a Prayer' and 'Don’t Look Back in Anger'.
A huge thank‑you to the boys working behind the scenes on sound, lighting and scheduling - your professionalism made the event run seamlessly.
Together, we raised £830 for charity, making the night not only entertaining but meaningful.

Parents, boys, staff and friends of the school gathered in the Music School Recital Hall on Tuesday evening for this year’s Spring Chamber Concert, and what an exceptional evening it was. The concert showcased a rich variety of our smaller ensembles, including piano trio, brass ensemble, guitar ensemble, piano quintet and wind quintet, among many others. The programme featured an impressive and wide‑ranging repertoire, with performances of works by Bach, Gurlitt, Scheidt and Schubert.
A particular highlight brought the evening to a memorable close - a stunning performance of Alfie by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, arranged by Michael Philip Mossman, beautifully delivered by our New Jazz Collective under the direction of Tom Syson.
Well done to all the boys involved, you performed with skill and musical maturity, making it a truly special night of chamber music.

Our pre‑season cricket training programme continues to build momentum, with the latest instalment in our masterclass series saw us welcome England batsman and wicket‑keeper Adam Rossington. Adam delivered an outstanding batting masterclass that explored key scoring options in the one‑day game, covering everything from power hitting and sweep variations to ramp shots, taking on the short ball, stepping down the pitch to hit over the bowler’s head and playing confidently against spin.
Throughout the session, Adam emphasised the importance of staying well balanced at the moment of contact, maintaining a strong and stable base to hit from, and using fast, purposeful footwork. His insight and clarity gave our boys plenty to take forward into the season.
A huge thank you to Adam for delivering such a high‑quality and inspiring session as we continue our build‑up to the new campaign. 🏏
