OB Prof. Jason Lotay Returns to Inspire Sixth Form Mathematicians

We were delighted to welcome Old Bedfordian Professor Jason Lotay (87–98) back to school earlier this week. Now a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, Prof. Lotay delivered an inspiring problem-solving session and extended enrichment for a select group of Lower Sixth formers.

During the session, he guided the boys through a series of challenging mathematical questions, beginning with a fascinating three-dimensional application of the Pythagorean theorem and culminating in a proof of the formula for the volume of a sphere. His approach not only deepened understanding but also showcased the beauty and creativity inherent in advanced mathematics.

The event was supervised by Dr Arjan, joined by Mr Jerome Watson, who taught Prof. Lotay Mathematics back in 1998. This remarkable full-circle moment, connecting past and present, was a testament to the continuity of the Bedford School community. What an incredible example of education in action!
