House Entrepreneurship Challenge Showcases Creativity and Teamwork

House Entrepreneurship Challenge Showcases Creativity and Teamwork

Entrepreneurship has been a key strategic focus for the school in recent years, with the introduction of BTEC qualifications and co-curricular activities that foster innovation, problem-solving, and leadership skills through real-world challenges. These initiatives teach boys to develop ideas, take calculated risks, and bring ventures to fruition. The House Entrepreneurship Competition, now in its third year, exemplifies these skills.

With only four weeks and a budget of £10, this year’s House Entrepreneurship teams delivered an impressive range of profitable projects, making the judges’ decision especially challenging.

Using the seasons as their inspiration, two of the houses sold hand warmers to spectators at recent rugby matches.  Sadly though, sales were affected by the unusually mild weather!  One team supplemented their offer with gloves and outlined future plans to sell sun hats and sun cream during the warmer months.

One of the youngest group of boys used equipment from a previous project to create customised photo phone cases.  The boys then used the profits from this project to produce handmade candles which sold out!

Another house focused on sustainability, selling bespoke water bottles using locally sourced materials.  The team impressed the judges with the thoroughness of their market research, their teamwork and their use of local suppliers.

One of the most unique projects did not have a physical product but created online adverts for a clothing brand.  The judges were very impressed by their professionalism and their use of social media to secure a client.

We are grateful to our guest judge, local businessman and entrepreneur Andrew Murphy (75–86), for taking on the difficult task of selecting a winner.   Supported by Vin Gaten and Bev Marshall from the Philanthropy team, he ultimately awarded the top place to Bromham House.

Congratulations to the winning team and well done to all the boys who took part.
