“Veni, vidi, vici” (“I came, I saw, I conquered”)—and Julius Caesar certainly did, as the Prep School boys discovered during an engaging enrichment talk from our Floreat* Classical Ambassadors, Ethan Clifford and Isaac Battersby.
The two Lower Sixth boys, who are studying Latin and Classics, respectively, shared their passion for the subject and, in particular, the life of Julius Caesar with the very knowledgeable Prep School audience in their fun, interactive talk, complete with togas and masks.
From Caesar’s Gallic Wars to his less-than-favourable opinion of the UK (he described our island as rainy, grey and wet!) to the numerous and extensive holidays he granted to celebrate his victories, the Sixth Formers brought Caesar’s story to life with humour and vivid detail. Spoiler alert: it was not a happy ending!
Enrichment talks, such as these, significantly enhance our Prep boys’ learning experience. Moreover, the benefits flow both ways, with those giving the talks gaining a sense of accomplishment through sharing knowledge while acting as incredible role models to our Prep boys, many of whom are inspired to follow in their footsteps.
The Sixth Formers’ talk was just the first in a series that Prep boys can look forward to this term.
