Fourth Former Daniel Meier ended the school year with a splash after scooping six medals at the English School’s Swimming Championship held last weekend.
Daniel, who started competitive swimming aged 10-years-old, was representing Bedford School at the championships, and was thrilled with the outcome of the competition, having won one gold medal, four silvers and one bronze across a range of events.
He told us, “My best performance was not my gold medal event but my 100m fly race as it was so close between me and the winner that it spurred me on to get a personal best.”
His results were as follows:
400m Free – silver 4:43.23
50m fly – 4th 29.99
100m free – 5th 59.79
200m fly – gold 2:31.57
50m free – bronze 27.83
200m Free – silver 2:09.21
100m fly – silver 1:04.92 (missed gold by 0.2seconds!)
Daniel started his swimming career at Potters Bar Swimming Club and has since been selected to train with Modernians. His love of swimming goes beyond the pool itself as he told us, “I love swimming because of all the amazing and different people I meet from all walks of life. I also love the advantage it gives me in other sports due to the many hours (13) of training a week.”
Daniel also plays in the A team in rugby, rowed in this year’s A octo and has just passed his Grade 5 in singing.
