Cupcakes, laughter and time together for our Young Carers

There was plenty of laughter this week as our Young Carers group rolled up their sleeves for a chocolate cupcake baking session.

The Café Bar was full of chatter, concentration and a great deal of enthusiasm as the boys got stuck in. A big thank you to Adam and Sharon for leading the fun session, which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.

Our Young Carers group meets every Tuesday morning in the counselling room, where croissants and hot chocolate help set a relaxed and welcoming tone. For the boys, it offers a calm space to talk, connect, share any highs or lows and simply spend time together.

Over the year, the group has grown into a supportive and easy-going community. Boys openly share their experiences and the unique challenges they may face, look out for one another and build friendships across year groups, from Year 3 through to Year 8.

Amanda Horlick-Coutts, School Counsellor, reflects, “It has been wonderful to see the way the boys support one another. There is a real sense of kindness across the group, and they do a great job of making everyone feel included from the moment they join. They are a great bunch and it’s a highlight of my week meeting with them!”

Alongside their weekly sessions, the boys have taken part in a range of activities this year, including rock climbing, Forest School and a pizza evening at Eagle House. Each one offers a chance to have fun, take a break from some of their responsibilities and strengthen the friendships that make the group so special.

We are also grateful to Carers Bedfordshire for their continued support, including helping us celebrate Young Carers Action Day earlier this year with thoughtful treats and activities that the boys enjoyed.
