Thanks to the generosity of the Parents’ Guild, those taking part in Duke of Edinburgh can now cook themselves a hot meal at the end of a long day hiking and camping in the wild.
Their donation enabled the school to purchase 10 Trangias, which are small, windproof stoves incorporating a burner, pots and a frying pan. Being lightweight, the boys can easily carry them in their rucksacks and set them up within minutes to cook a meal.
Over 110 boys have taken part in Duke of Edinburgh this year and the stoves are already proving a valuable addition to the school’s resources. Better still, their durability means they are expected to last up to 15 years, benefiting an estimated 1,000 boys over time.
The donation was made possible through proceeds from the Nearly New Shop. The shop not only supports initiatives like this but is also a fantastic resource for parents, offering high-quality second-hand uniform at affordable prices. Run by a dedicated team of parent volunteers, it plays an important role in the school community.
