Earlier this week, boys across all year groups united for a special Movember Citizenship Morning, dedicated to raising awareness about men’s health and wellbeing. This event aimed to spark meaningful conversations and encourage proactive citizenship—all under the powerful Movember theme.
The morning began in the Great Hall, where pupils from Bedford Girls’ School joined our Lower Sixth boys to lead an important session on sexual harassment awareness for the Fourth Form. While not part of the Movember campaign, this session addressed a vital and sensitive issue, reinforcing the importance of respect and understanding in our community. This collaborative approach not only deepened awareness but also showcased the value of peer-led education. After the initial discussion, pupils moved into classrooms for smaller, interactive sessions that allowed for honest dialogue and practical advice.
MoBros Leading the Way
Alongside these sessions, this year’s MoBros cohort took the lead on discussions around men’s mental health and physical health, including vital topics such as testicular cancer.
Mental health sessions focused on practical ways to support friends—how to check in regularly, what questions to ask and how to spot signs that something might be wrong, such as changes in mood or withdrawal from activities. The emphasis was clear: create a culture where conversations about mental health are normal and encouraged.
Boys also explored the topic of testicular cancer, learning how to recognise symptoms and practise self-examination safely and confidently. These discussions were designed to break down stigma and empower boys with knowledge that could save lives.
Miss Alice Swallow, Citizenship Lead, reflected on the impact of the morning, “It was truly powerful to see some of our older boys leading thoughtful discussions around Movember and other sensitive, important issues. I was impressed by the maturity and care they demonstrated in their approach, and it was inspiring to witness how positively the younger boys engaged with these conversations.”
The atmosphere throughout the morning was one of energy, empathy and engagement, with boys and girls demonstrating a genuine commitment to making a difference. By the end of the sessions, they left not only informed but inspired—ready to champion men’s health and wellbeing in their own circles.
This Citizenship Morning is just one part of our month-long Movember campaign, which combines awareness, education and action to make a lasting impact.
