It has been an exceptional week for Bedford Prep School boys, with outstanding achievements across a wide range of sports.
Cricket
The 1st XI (U13A) delivered three remarkable victories this week. On Tuesday, they dominated Abingdon School in the first round of the National David English Cup, winning by an astonishing 247 runs.
Head of Prep PE, Mr Lincoln, praised the team, explaining, “It was a great team performance in the David English Cup, which you qualify for by winning the County Finals at U12. There were lots of excellent catches in the field.”
The team continued their superb play the very next day with another strong win against Caldicott School. The full block fixture saw our U13, U12 and U11 teams in action, with victories for the 2nd XI (U13B) and all four U12 teams (A, B, C, and D) — a clean sweep!
And, hot off the press . . . the 1st XI have just beaten St Hugh’s School by 156 runs. This included a ton from Aveer in Y6, who played two years up.
Hockey
We were delighted to see so many Bedford Prep boys representing Bedford Hockey Club at the East Regional Finals last weekend.
In the U10s, Kasper, Gurvir, Ernest, Rufus and Ben were selected for the final squad and performed brilliantly. They finished second in their group and narrowly missed out on the finals, placing 4th overall out of 11 county teams. Special mention must go to Gurvir, who finished as top goal scorer for Bedford during the tournament.
The U12s also had a great day, with Callum, George, Dhillon, Archie, Daniel, Michael, William, Hugo, Thomas and Joshua all competing. The team finished 7th overall, showing clear development and improvement as the tournament progressed.
Sandeep Sira, Juniors Coordinator at Bedford Hockey Club, told us the “[The boys’] conduct on and off the pitch was exemplary; they were respectful, resilient and showed great sportsmanship.” Well done, boys.
Table Tennis
Congratulations to Ben (U11), Olly, Jeff, Daniel and Haneesh (U13) for reaching and playing in the IAPS U11 and U13 table tennis finals last weekend. Special mention goes to Olly, who reached the quarter-finals after winning all three group matches.
Swimming
Following his success in the Bedfordshire Swimming County Championships, we are delighted to say that Luke ( successfully qualified for the Regional Swimming Championships, where he will compete over three days in May. We wish him the best of luck.
Excitingly, Luke has also achieved two times that currently place him in a qualifying position for the English Nationals, due to be held at the end of July and the beginning of August, and is in close contention to qualify for the British Nationals, too.
Luke has also qualified for the IAPS finals on 7 June and will swim in the U13 50m breaststroke.
He is joined by Kuba at the IAPS finals in the U12 butterfly, who has also qualified to represent Bedfordshire at the East Region Swimming Championships, with Austin and Thomas as first reserves in the U13 freestyle and U12 backstroke at IAPS, respectively.
Martial Arts
After his success at the Naga London Grappling Championship, Rafael (Year 8) continued his winning streak at UMAC, a well-known Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition in Milton Keynes in April. We are thrilled to share that Rafa brought home a silver medal – and a very colourful one at that!
