New Term, New Clubs

New Term, New Clubs

The new term is off to a flying start, with boys diving into a wide range of co-curricular clubs and activities — including some exciting new additions.

One of the standout newcomers is Taekwondo Club, which kicked off this week and brought a real buzz to the lower gym. Led by Master Andrew Glasby, a VII Degree Black Belt, the first session gave boys a taste of the discipline, energy and respect that define this martial art.

The boys began by learning what Taekwondo means—strike with foot (tae), strike with hand (kwon) and the way or art (do) — and heard the clear message from Master Glasby that Taekwondo is for self-defence only.

Respect was a key theme throughout the session, starting with a bow to one another, followed by an introduction to basic stances and the Taekwondo oath, which recites the values of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.

After a fun warm-up game to sharpen focus, the boys moved on to practising punches and breath control. The gym soon echoed with enthusiastic shouts of “PUNCH!” as the boys worked together to master the basics.

Master Glasby was full of praise, telling the boys they had done “amazingly well” in their first session. We are excited to see them grow in confidence, focus and discipline as the term goes on.

Other new clubs this term include Classics ClubEngineering Club and Minibeasts Club. These join our much-loved regulars like Robotics ClubHungry Boys’ Club and Care of Animals— all part of the vibrant co-curricular life that gives boys the chance to explore, learn and grow beyond the classroom.
