We are delighted to welcome Mohammad Soffian Umar (86-87) as our District Vice President in Brunei. He will act as a point of contact for all OBs living there or travelling there for work or on holiday. He is pictured here (second from left) with his son Zulwaqar, wife Rosnahwati (centre), and daughters Nur Khairin (second from right) and Nur Khairiyah (far right).

“I
came to Bedford School in Jan 1986 and joined the Lower Sixth. My house was
Redburn and I had fond memories there. Our house master was Mr Briggs.

I
left after my A Levels and continued to further my studies at Bolton Institute, and University of Glamorgan as a Brunei Shell scholar.

My
career had been mainly in the oil and gas sector, with Brunei Shell Petroleum.
I had a short stint in Oman with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). I held
supervisory and managerial positions in production operations and maintenance;
Crude Oil Terminal Superintendent, Offshore Installation Manager and HSE
(Health, Safety & Environment) Manager. I am now with a service company
operating in Brunei, providing services such as project management, oil and gas
support services and soil retention systems.

I am
married to Rosnahwati Mohammad and have three lovely children, Zulwaqar, Nur
Khairiyah and Nur Khairin.

I am
honoured to be trusted with the DVP role for Brunei and hope that I will be
able to execute it efficiently and contribute to the OB Club.”
