The school was once again buzzing with activity as returning boys gave a warm welcome to their new schoolmates and caught up with old friends on the first day of the new school year. It is always a wonderful time of the year as new boys arrive and old boys return to the school looking shiny and smart in their uniforms and full of energy and enthusiasm.

In the very first assembly of the year, Mr Silk spoke to the boys about the exciting times that lie ahead and explained about the focus for the term: Kindness, and about empathy, in particular.

Kindness is one of our core values, along with curiosity, endeavour, responsibility and integrity. And we are delighted to say that the boys took kindness to heart this week as they helped new boys to find their feet in the school, the playground, dining halls and sports field, looking out for them and helping them out. They have been superb role models, and we are proud of them all.

We are sure that you will have some tired boys as the first week draws to a close. However, we hope that they are also full of tales of all the lessons and activities they have enjoyed, new friendships formed and are excited about the adventures that lie ahead.

As the Head Master Mr Hodgson says, remember to “Work hard, play hard and be kind” – and have fun!
