The Bedford School Boat Club had a successful weekend at the National Schools Regatta over the weekend of 26/27/28 May. The weather was set fair on the Friday when J14s raced, the A octuple finished twelfth out of 29 crews in the 1st octuples event. In the second octuple event, the B crew finished seventh, winning the B final, the C crew finished tenth by finishing fourth in the B final. The D crew finished thirty-second out of the 37 crews in the event.

On Saturday, despite a strong head wind, the 1st VIII won the Silver medal in the 1st VIIIs event in dramatic fashion, just 0.6 seconds ahead of Enniskillen. This is the first time the 1st VIII has medalled since 2012. Well done boys! The 2nd 4 finished seventh out of 28 in the J18 quad. This is a very promising result for a newly formed crew.

The Colts A crew won Bronze in the J16 1st VIIIs. The Colts B crew finished fourth, just half a length behind Hampton, this is a phenomenal achievement for a crew that finished thirteenth last year and is testament to all their and Mr Mitchell’s hard work this year.

The J15 A crew won a silver medal in the J15 1st VIIIs. In the J15 2nd VIIIs event, the B crew finished eighth and the C crew sixteenth out of 19 crews. Both crews had a dramatic last minute reshuffle after one of the boys picked up a sickness bug. A special mention to Louis Case who answered the call at 6:01am on Saturday morning to be at Dorney lake by 7:45am to race in the C crew.

On Sunday, the 1st VIII and Colts A crews broke down into small boats. The 1st VIII raced in a coxless and coxed 4. The coxed 4, nominally the 2nd crew, produced the best performance to make the A final finishing seventh.

All-in-all, a great weekend and a fantastic set of results. Congratulations to all the boys and their coaches.
