In a superb week of Badminton, both our Prep and Upper teams won their regional tournaments to qualify for the national finals.

The U13 A team of Josha Mital, Vedant Somal, Joshua Stewart and Max Pearson pulled another fantastic performance out of the bag to win the U14 East Regional Badminton Tournament. In the group stages, the team enjoyed a 5-0 win against Parkside from Cambridgeshire and a 4-1  win over East Bergholt from Suffolk.

Their group wins qualified them for a place in the final against Haberdashers Aske’s. In a very exciting encounter, where the lead swung in the balance, the boys managed to win three games to two to win the competition.  It was a superb team effort from all the boys as they showed true grit, determination and skill.  Their achievement is all the more impressive if you take into account that all the boys are a year young and will be able to compete in the same competition next year.

Just days later, the Upper School team of Anthony Hung, Leon Zhu, Oliver Medley and Ashlesh Chandrapu produced an impressive clean sweep to win their tournament.  In the group stages, they enjoyed emphatic wins over Debenham from Suffolk and Fakenham from Norfolk – 5-0 in both matches. In the final, they showed their talent yet again to defeat Richard Hale from Hertfordshire 5-0.  There were many quality rallies but Bedford had the edge – three games went to 20-20, with no extended play, and Bedford won the final point on all three occasions. It was a truly dominant and skilful performance by the team.

We look forward to cheering both teams on at the National Finals at Milton Keynes National Badminton Centre on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th April.
