It was an exhilarating weekend for our U14 Badminton Team when they competed in the National Finals at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes on 5 May. Three of the team, Fourth Formers Josha Mital, Vedant Somal and Joshua Stewart had competed in the finals last year and achieved 7th place. With their combined experience and the addition of the very strong Alex Lamb from the Prep School, who was playing two years above his own age category, the team were very hopeful to improve on last year’s position.

After a comprehensive 5-0 win against Chulmleigh College the boys had to win their next match against a very strong Silverdale School, if they were to qualify for a top three finish. In a very tight match, played to the highest standard, the Silverdale side just won 3-2, which meant the boys were playing for 4th to 6th positions. The game really could have gone either way, but the boys soon put the disappointment of the morning loss behind them as they convincingly won against King Edward’s, Birmingham 5-0 and Newbridge High 4-1. As a result, the boys finish ranked 4th in the country, an outstanding effort.
