Day two of National Boarding Week saw our boys ‘tasting the world’ during boarders’ tea – an event designed to bring together the whole boarding community, while also helping raise cultural awareness.
Sharing and learning about food is a great way to not only bond, but also learn about each other and other cultures. With boys from 28 different countries in our boarding houses, cultural experiences such as these help them appreciate the international community in which they live.

Thanks to our marvellous catering team Chartwells, a colourful and multicultural street food style tea was prepared for boarders to enjoy while celebrating National Boarding Week.
Lower Sixth Former Will Tweedie explained, “The event allowed us to have the opportunity to try different cuisines that we normally don’t get to try. I learned about how cuisines differ from around the world and tried new foods which I had not heard about before.”
There was Mexican, Italian, South Korean, Japanese and Cornish seafood dishes to choose from, and of course a varied dessert table. Boys were able to try all the cuisines on offer, some of them sampling national dishes for the very first time.
Emma Lickley, General Manager at Chartwells, who organised the event explained, “Events such as these are important because we want the boys to feel like the Dining Hall is the centre of their community here and a home from home, with the catering being at the heart of that by showing what Chartwells can do in the kitchen. We want the boys to be able to try food that they wouldn’t normally have the chance to try, and to feel empowered by that.”
