The Prep School Parents took to the sports field last weekend to take on the teachers in the much-anticipated annual cricket match. Played in a friendly and well-spirited manner, the match was a tight affair with the Ousels coming out on top.
After winning the toss and batting first, the teachers compiled an impressive 220 for 7 from their allotted overs. An unbeaten 42 from Mr Mason and 36 from Mr Dennis laid the foundation at the top of the order with late runs coming from Ousel stand-in, Mr Brading (37), and Mr Lincoln (28). Tommy Jordan (2-27) was the pick of the bowlers for the Parents.
A tough chase started in the worst possible fashion as the parents lost two early wickets to the swing and seam of Mr Loader. 41 not out from Andrew Saunders steadied the ship, supported ably by Sumit Ganju (23). John Timothy (36) and Rob Featherstone (28 not out) accelerated the scoring through the last ten overs but disciplined bowling from Mr Guest and Mr Collyer ensured the Parents were unable to sustain the required rate, losing by 34 runs.
Most importantly, a good day was had by both players and spectators. A massive thank you must go to the volunteers from the Prep Guild who laid on an array of snacks and refreshments for those in attendance.
A donation from the proceeds will be made to Young Carers in memory of Bobbi Gill, a much-loved former member of the Prep Guild, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Final scores;
Ousels: 220/7 from 30 overs
Parents: 186/5 from 30 overs
Ousels won by 34 runs
