‘Trains, Boats & Planes’
Recent work by Michael Checketts
Michael Checketts studied at Norwich School of Art and the Royal
Academy Schools and has been painting for 35 years. This exhibition consists of
work from the last ten years involving people and landscape. It’s largely based
on the Underground, Manningtree Market, the River Stour and the constant flow
of air traffic to Stansted. The work, including oil paintings and pastels, are
all done from drawings, made directly from the subject, memory and,
occasionally, photographs. Because Michael tries not to change what he sees he describes
his work as naturalistic. Exhibitions he has been involved in include the Ruth
Borchard Portrait Award, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the BP
Portrait Award and the Spectator Painting competition which he won in 1994.
