I attended Bedford School as a boarder at Burnaby between 1971 and 1976. In 2023, a mere 48 years after I left, I contacted Hugh Maltby and had a very convivial chat about my time at the school and sharing news of contemporaries. Retired, enthused to remember times past and encouraged by Hugh, my wife Judy and myself together with my sister-in-law and her husband attended Henley Royal Regatta last summer where I had last rowed in 1976 in the 1st VIII. Generously refreshed with Pimms at the School Reception I was delighted to meet a direct contemporary and fellow oarsman, Nick Hewison (71-76) whom I had not seen since 1988.
I have come to feel the “family” of Bedford School is something quite unique and wonderful and half a century later I feel as welcome today as I did then.
