Bedford School is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Sloan as our next Head Master, following James Hodgson’s exceptional 12-year tenure. Mr Sloan will officially join us at the start of the next academic year, bringing a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the future of the school.
Currently Executive Headmaster at King’s College, Taunton, Mr Sloan combines strong academic leadership with extensive experience in boarding and pastoral care, ensuring an enriching environment for every boy. His career began as an Officer in the British Army, serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo, before moving into education. He has held senior roles at Emanuel School and Brighton College, where he served as Deputy Head for eight years, playing a key role in elevating the school’s academic profile. In 2022, he became Head of King’s College, Taunton.
The Governors were particularly impressed by his ambition for every boy to fulfil his potential, his commitment to staff development, and his understanding of the culture that makes Bedford School so distinctive.
Speaking about his appointment, Mr Sloan said:
“I am thrilled to be appointed as the next Head Master of Bedford School. It is a tremendous honour and privilege to lead such a nationally respected and brilliantly distinctive school. My family and I are very much looking forward to joining the Bedford School community, which is clearly defined by its warmth, ambition and sense of purpose.”
