If you had been passing by our Music School Recital Hall on Thursday, you might have been mistaken for thinking that you were at Carnival in Rio De Janeiro thanks to the rhythmic, samba beats playing out.

We were lucky enough to sit in with the Y7 percussion ensemble as they enjoyed a fun session with Mr Ridley. It was only their second session, but the boys were clearly enjoying the sounds of Brasilian samba, performing not only the steady hypnotic beats that make this style of music so popular, but also getting into the spirit of the movement with the music.  Finishing the session on Surdo drums (big bass drums) the sound was terrific and, playing using in call and response, the boys put on quite a show.

Earlier in the week, we were also treated to another magical musical moment as two of our Y8 choristers performed John Rutter’s ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’ in the Chapel. Do have a listen below.

With more and more year group ensembles and choirs resuming, there is plenty of musical fun for boys of all ages and abilities to enjoy.
