Following the drone racing experiences for boarders over half term, a number of Lower Sixth Form students have been invited to join a drone racing club, which met for the first time this week.

The objective of the club is to teach the boys how to fly responsibly, but also competitively. Initially the boys will fly using simulators until they can confidently fly without too much reliance on auto stabilising. As their skills improve, they will progress onto iFlight Greenhornet FPV drones flying outside using Virtual Reality headsets to see the live video feed coming from a camera mounted on the front of the drone and race against each other through obstacles.

The club also aims to give the boys an opportunity to try something unique, something which really does feel like flying like a bird, but also increasing their understanding of how physics, maths, technology and computer science work together in the real world.
