We absolutely LOVE singing at Bedford Prep School! So, House Singing is always one of the most hotly-anticipated events of the year.
As ever, the Great Hall was packed full of boys, staff and parents all eagerly awaiting this year’s competition. And what a competition it was!
Our adjudicator, Katy Crompton Grint, shared her delight after hearing the boys singing, saying, “What a privilege to be here today. Your singing brought us so much joy and happiness” and “I have to admit choosing the winners has not been an easy decision.”
Howard House received high praise from Katy for their “excellent intonation” and for singing with “one voice” in their rendition of Drops of Jupiter. Their part song, Cabaret, was described as “beautiful” and full of “pizazz”.
Harpur House impressed with their Mary Poppins Medley, which was “musically absolutely outstanding” and “so entertaining”. Their part song, Let It Be, was a “moving, connected performance,” according to Katy.
Bunyan House demonstrated a “really lovely connection with the words” in Make Your Own Kind of Music. They earned high praise for putting themselves out there with their rendition of With a Little Help from My Friends, which Katy described as “impressive”.
Whitbread House brought joy with their renditions of I’m a Believer and Holding Out for a Hero. Katie also praised the part song soloists, exclaiming, “Just wow! Beautiful!”
The musical talent continued in the interval with brilliant performances from Oscar McCartie, who performed Forty Winks by Mark Tanner on the piano, and Oliver Gibson, who sang The Lord is My Shephard.
However, there can only be two winners, and this year they were:
- Unison Song: Howard
- Part Song: Harpur
A huge well done to all the boys and their teachers on another brilliant competition.
