The J16 Rowing Squad signed off for the season in real style at
Thames Valley Park Regatta on Sunday 21 June; winning both of their events with
two excellent finishes.

First off were the coxed four of Jos Cooke, Dan Lewis, George
Edwards, Harry Molloy and Ben Whitelaw, having just missed out by a few feet
last week at Marlow this crew had trained with real purpose during the week but
it was never going to be easy against a crew from Emanuel School who had
finished in 4th place at the National Schools Regatta (NSR). Bedford lead
off the start but Emanuel came back to level in the middle of the race before
Bedford produced an excellent last 20 strokes to snatch a well-deserved win by
a canvas.

Later in the afternoon it was the turn of the eight, the crew of
Oli Winder, Chris Lamb, Ed Cazzoli, Tom Liggins, Harry Sivills, Benedict
Eggeling, Tom Dason-Barber, Ed Lamb and again coxed by Ben Whitelaw were up
against old rivals Norwich School who had taken silver at NSR just in front of
Bedford’s bronze. Once again a thrilling sprint race saw Norwich take a small
lead off the start but Bedford came back to level things up before gaining a
vital 3ft advantage in the last 20 strokes. Following their win at Marlow the
week before this was a strong end to the season and testament to the hard
work the squad has put in all year.
