Bedford Prep boys Ed Blythman and Daniel Smith both
represented Bedfordshire at Cofton Park in Birmingham at the Inter Counties
Championships on Saturday 7th March. The event also incorporated the
British Athletics World Cross Country Trials and the Cross Challenge
Final.
Both boys did exceptionally well in the high calibre
event which all English counties plus Wales and Scotland entered – in the
senior age groups, athletes were competing for places to represent Great
Britain at the imminent World Cross Country Championships in China – very
exciting!
The course was challenging for the U13 boys with a
significant hill to run up and down – twice! – but running conditions were good
and spectators enjoyed an unusually sunny and dry day too. Ed was the
first U13 first runner home for Bedfordshire: finishing in 51st place.
Daniel was the second runner home for Bedfordshire: finishing 195th in the
field of 300 runners.
