Inspiring Artists

Talented Year 8 artists enjoyed an inspiring full-day art workshop that stretched their creativity and sharpened their skills.

The boys embraced a bold challenge: drawing in reverse. Using white media on black paper, they created a series of dramatic, high-contrast artworks that showcased both their growing technical skills and imaginative flair.

The day began with a close study of a sphere, helping the boys develop their understanding of light and tone. From there, each boy chose a subject—be it a portrait, animal, plant or still life—and applied their observational skills to build a striking composition. The results were impressive and reflected their growing confidence as young artists.

As Prep Art Scholars, these boys are encouraged to take ownership of their creative journeys, leading their own projects in class and exploring new techniques. This workshop was a valuable opportunity to deepen their practice, and the skills they gained will continue to shape their work in future lessons.

Next, the boys are looking forward to further full-day workshops in intaglio printing and watercolour painting.
