Congratulations to our Upper Sixth boys who received their International Baccalaureate Diploma results yesterday. The boys recorded a 100% pass rate, with 82% of the exams marked at grades 7-5 (the equivalent of A*-B at A-Level). The average score per candidate was 35 points; significantly higher than the international average of 30 points.

Special congratulations go to Tom Lousada and Manu Ratnayake who earned Oxbridge places on the back of their outstanding IB results.  Tom, who achieved an incredible 44 (out of a possible 45 points), will be reading Economics and Management at Merton College, Oxford, and Manu, who scored an equally commendable 43 points, will read Medicine at Jesus College, Cambridge.

Head Master James Hodgson commented, “My congratulations go to both boys and staff on the results, which are again excellent, and I wish the boys the very best as they take up their places in universities both in this country and abroad”.

However, the results are only half the story; we are also very proud that the boys are leaving Bedford School as critical thinkers and compassionate citizens, with the intellectual, personal, social and emotional skills to succeed.

Lastly but by no means least, may I take this opportunity to offer my personal thanks to Mr Colin Marsh for all he has contributed to Bedford School, especially the IB programme, which he has successfully driven for the last ten years.  I wish him a well-earned rest and a very happy retirement.  Mrs Emma Murray will take over as Director of IB next year as we look forward to an exciting, new chapter.”
