On Thursday 9th February a group of OBs, wives, partners and family members enjoyed a great trip to Jordans Mill near Biggleswade. A number in the party had not visited the mill since they were at School and were very impressed to see how things had developed. It was very kind of Bill Jordan (56-67) to host the party and to give a tour in person. The Jordan family purchased “Holme Mill” in 1893, at a time that Bedfordshire was at the centre of flour production across the country. In the years that followed the mill was upgraded over time, with new processes and technology being utilised to maximise efficiency and improve quality. The technical minded in the group particularly enjoyed seeing all the working parts in action which certainly brought the heritage of the building to life.

The tour was followed by a delicious lunch in one of the rooms attached to the mill. This gave the group the time to catch up and to share a few stories. It was particularly interesting to hear how the Jordans’ business has adapted to cater for the changes within the food industry and changes with our day to day eating habits. We laughed as we wondered how any OBs started their day with a bowl of Jordans granola! Thank you to Toby and the team at Jordans Mill for looking after us so well. Many of us will be back in the Summer to see the fantastic gardens at their best.

A number of guests at this event had never been to an OB event since leaving School. Thank you for joining us, we hope that other OBs will follow your lead and join us at an event in 2017. Please have a look through the calendar; there is always lots going on and you will be most welcome.
