Saturday 4th February saw a real ‘gathering of the clans’ to celebrate the life of our former Head of Brass (1987-2016), Mr Guy Bennett.

The Great Hall was packed with over 300 guests attending, and there were musical items featuring the Brass instruments which were Guy’s speciality. The evening started with the current 10-piece Brass Ensemble, followed by an OB Brass Ensemble, which had been formed especially for the event. They met at 5pm to rehearse, and very much enjoyed getting back together! Former Director of Music, Mr Andrew Morris, gave a moving spoken tribute to Guy, and referred to his absolute commitment to promoting Brass music at Bedford School. The short concert was concluded by the School Band, enlarged with around 20 OB musicians and friends, performing two movements from Holst’s Planet Suite. The wall of sound was impressive!

The evening concluded with a buffet reception in the Dining Halls, where friends were able to reconnect and talk about the incredible impact that Mr Bennett had had on their musical education.
