As part of the Harpur Science Forum lecture series, we were delighted to welcome Tim Briggs FRCS (67-76) back to the School on Thursday 3rd December. A prominent figure, Tim is both Surgical Director of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and President of the British National Orthopaedic Association and of the HSF. He has a strong academic interest and publishes widely, author of ‘Getting it right first time’ – a report on improving orthopaedic care in the NHS in England.

Open to both students and OBs, the event was well attended as expected. In accordance with Remembrance Day falling later that week, the Professor gave an enlightening lecture on ‘From Waterloo to Afghanistan – Advances in Battlefield Surgery in the last 200 years’. Not for the faint-hearted, the talk was anything but boring!

Many thanks to Tim on giving up his valuable time to talk to us about such an interesting subject.
