The 12th Old Bedfordian Deutschland reunion took place during the weekend of 10-12th November. DVPs for the area, Peter Worth (05-07), Gustav Kessel (09-11) and Gian Zinngrebe (12-14) put together a varied programme to sample Germany’s prime financial centre of Frankfurt. It was great to have Mr. Frank Graeff, the current German teacher and Head of Modern Languages at Bedford School, fly over from Bedford to join the group as the guest of honour.

The weekend kicked off on Friday night when numerous Old Bedfordians and an alumna from what is now Bedford Girls’ School, convened in the “Fetter Bulle” for a catch-up, before moving on to enjoy the Karaoke night at a local Irish Pub. Saturday started with a late Turkish breakfast, before moving on to the Städel Museum, which hosts a fine collection of modern and classic art-  with an exhibition of Matisse and Bonard’s works currently in residence alongside Merian’s beautiful natural depictions of plants and insects. Standesämtchen, a traditional German pub right on the Römer square, was the next destination, where more OBs joined the group.

Following the “official” part of the OBD AGM, the highlight of the evening was the visit to “Apfelwein Wagner”, a Frankfurt institution serving hessian Ebbelwoi (the local cider) alongside traditional German food. Many fond memories of School life and boarding life, in particular, were shared. It was a very enjoyable event and the group are already starting to plan for their next event next spring.
