Four Boys Selected for Northampton Saints Developing Player Programme

We are thrilled to announce that four talented Fifth Formers have been selected for the prestigious Northampton Saints Rugby U17 Developing Player Programme (DPP). This remarkable achievement will see Oliver Surley, George Simmonds, Will Tierney and Henry Pask don Northampton Saints jerseys and represent the premiership team next season.

These young athletes are set to follow in the illustrious footsteps of Old Bedfordians who have made significant marks in the rugby world. Notable Old Bedfordians include England players Fraser Dingwall and George Furbank, as well as recent stars Jonny Weimann and Aiden Ainsworth-Cave, all of whom began their rugby journeys with the Northampton Saints.

Our recent Elite Community Partnership with Northampton Saints has been instrumental in this success. This partnership ensures that our boys receive top-tier coaching support services throughout the academic year, benefiting from the expertise and guidance of seasoned professionals. The selection of Oliver, George, Will and Henry is a testament to the quality of training and support provided through this collaboration.

Will explained, “The school has played a massive role in my development of my skills as well as my leadership and team skills on the pitch. I was lucky enough to captain the U16 first team this season and grateful I can benefit from the year-round daily rugby sessions available.”

The Northampton Saints DPP is the cornerstone of a national initiative, delivered in partnership with the RFU, regional academies and constituent bodies. The programme is designed to complement school, club and county rugby, with a strong emphasis on individual player development. It represents the first step on the academy pathway, a critical phase in nurturing future rugby stars.

James Hinkins, Director of Rugby commented, “We are incredibly proud of these young athletes and their dedication to the sport. Their selection is not only a personal triumph but also a reflection of the strength and potential of our rugby programme. As they embark on this exciting journey, we look forward to watching them grow and excel, both on and off the field.”
