We were blessed with wonderful weather for this year’s Commemoration of Founders and Benefactors on Sunday 4th October. This is an important date in the calendar when the School community comes together to celebrate its heritage and thank all benefactors for everything that they have done for the School.

The Chapel Choir sang beautifully and we were delighted to welcome Andrew Briggs, Professor of Nanomaterials at the University of Oxford, to give the sermon. Andrew spoke about the relationship between religion and science, and gave an insight into a number of the studies that he had been involved in during his very impressive career. Following the Chapel service, guests and staff enjoyed a lunch in the Great Hall; it is always a delight to see everybody come together with a large variety of connections to the School stretching over many years.

The Head Master and Lance Feaver, Chairman of the Foundation, both spoke and took the opportunity to thank all those that support the School in such a broad way; the work of the Foundation and 1552 Legacy Club are both integral to the School. Following lunch some guests enjoyed a tour of the Science Department following the upgrade that was completed recently and the Quarry Theatre which opened earlier in the Summer. All were very impressed at the standard of the work that had taken place and the opportunities that these wonderful facilities offer the boys and staff.
