Five boys from our Lower Sixth Form took part in Bedford’s Five-a-side football tournament as part of Refugee Week, a national celebration which recognises the contribution of refugees to the UK and aims to encourage better understanding between communities.

The local event, organised by Bedford Refugee and Asylum Seekers Support (BRASS), was held in Bedford’s Russell Park at the weekend. The boys played against mostly older teams from several different countries and displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout.

We should perhaps mention Michael Phillips’ Pickford-like saves, Harry McPhail’s acrobatic near miss, Oliver Burridge-Dean’s thunderbolt goal, Bryn Williamson’s Roberto Carlos-like strikes and Alex Wilkins’ goal-line save.

It was wonderful to take part in a local event with nationalities from all over the world represented.
