Thank you so much to our DVP in Florida, Finn Longinotto (57-62) for arranging such an enjoyable OB gathering in Miami between 15-18th February 2018. Everybody who attended had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know one another over a carefully planned programme of events.

The group were based in Miami Beach and had fun exploring the local area which, of course, is well known for its famous art-deco architecture. Finn kindly took the group on a walking tour along Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive bringing to life the history of these impressive buildings, and the colourful characters that had been associated with them over the years. It was also good to get a feel for the different areas which all have their own special character, in particular, the Cuban District “Little Havana”, and Wynwood Walls, a disused warehouse district which since 2009 has developed as the home of a vibrant street art and graffiti scene. As Miami consists of numerous waterways and islands, a boat trip was also scheduled, giving us the opportunity to see the port, cruise liner operation, as well as the islands where the rich and famous live (or rather hide from the prying eyes of tourists!).

As with all OB events, the social side of the trip was just as important, and we enjoyed a number of receptions and good meals together. On the first night we were kindly hosted at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club, by Chris (52-57) and Lesa Blackman, on the second we visited the iconic Biltmore Hotel at Coral Gables, and on the final night we had a more formal gala dinner at the Nautilus where a number of speeches and toasts were made.

Thank you once again to Finn for being such an amazing host and making us feel so very welcome. Although people did not necessarily know each other at the start of the trip, they left as strong friends feeling that they had shared a very special few days together, along with one or two cocktails! The OB Club is keen to run similar events in the future which we hope will be well supported. If any OB would like to plan and host such an event, we would love to hear from you!
